Yesterday was an exciting day! Tom has his first weekend off in, well, we can’t remember when. Probably since before Miley Cyrus went all skanky. So we decided to stay in, have a family day, and not do any work. It was awesome. We napped with Daddy:

We practiced our walking:
We read books with Daddy:
We built a pillow fort and watched Plant Earth.
We ate stir fry noodles:
We went to bed.
It was a great day.
Amazing Bread Machine Soft Pretzels
1 1/2 c. water
3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. kosher salt, plus extra for sprinkling
1 Tbsp. packed brown sugar
2 tsp. active dry yeast
1/3 c. baking soda
Add water, flour, 1 tsp. salt, sugar, and yeast to your bread machine in the order specified by the manufacturer. Set the machine to the dough cycle. When dough cycle is complete, preheat oven to 425 degrees and bring 2 quarts of water to boil in a large kettle. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide into ten even pieces (more if you want smaller pretzels). Roll each piece into an 18-inch rope and twist into pretzel shape, sealing the ends by pinching the dough together.
Add baking soda to boiling water and reduce heat to medium-low. Place pretzels 2 or 3 at a time into the water. Simmer for one minute, then flip the pretzels over and simmer for one additional minute. Remove pretzels from water and place on a wire rack, sprinkle with kosher salt.
When all pretzels have been boiled and drained on the wire rack, transfer them to baking sheets covered with parchment paper. Bake 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
